Pomegranate Kvas is a delightful, lightly sparkling fermented drink that offers a refreshing taste and probiotic benefits. This recipe combines the goodness of pomegranate seeds, filtered water, and raw honey to create a naturally fermented beverage. Enjoy the tangy and effervescent flavours of this homemade Kvas, served cold with a lime wedge and additional pomegranate seeds. Cheers to a healthy and delicious drink!
Method
Prepare the Kvas: Pour the filtered water into a clean, 2-liter glass kilner jar. Add the pomegranate seeds and raw honey to the jar. Close the lid tightly and give the jar a gentle shake to mix the ingredients.
Fermentation: Set the jar aside at room temperature for 3-4 days. During this time, the fermentation process will take place, and you will start seeing bubbles forming. Occasionally open the jar to "burp" it, releasing some of the built-up pressure.
Strain and store: Once you observe plenty of bubbles and the desired fermentation level, strain the liquid to separate the fruit from the liquid. Decant the liquid into clean bottles and refrigerate immediately. Serve the Pomegranate Kvas poured over ice, garnished with a wedge of lime and some extra pomegranate seeds. The stored Pomegranate Kvas will stay fresh for 7-10 days.
